Two Simultaneous Truths

Hello sweet friend!

I have a confession. Sometimes when I am singing praise songs (especially in corporate worship), I think maybe the angels are singing His praises too...at that exact moment. I think about everyone else who might be in church, right then all around the world, singing and lifting His name high.

Then I think about all creation singing praises to the Most High. Can you hear them? The flowers, streams, oceans, and trees. The lions, birds, horses, and fish in the sea. All singing praises to the Creator.

Truth #1: God is so big, like infinitely big. So big, in fact, that space and time cannot contain Him. The laws of the physical realm are good and useful for us to exist and thrive, but Jesus walked on water and raised the dead to life. He's bigger and stronger than our physical laws.

Psalm 104:1-8 says, "Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent. He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot; he rides on the wings of the wind; he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire. He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved. You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they took to flight. The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place that you appointed for them." (ESV)

Whoa, what power!!! And yet, another truth is simultaneously evident. Even as He is infinitely bigger than anything we can grasp, He is also very intimate and personal for you and me.

Today, I was looking out my window and got really excited (I mean like giddy with twinkly eyes, and giggles), to see a little bird fly and settle into a birdhouse that I made.

Over one year ago, I toiled to watch a YouTube video, get the materials, and have my husband help me use the tools to make this crude structure from scratch. I put it out last year, and for a long time nothing happened. Then one day, a new family moved in. It was great!

After the fall came and the birds moved out, I took down the birdhouse and cleaned it out. It got stored through the winter.

A couple of weeks ago, my sweet husband helped me put it out. Lo and behold, we have new chirpy neighbors again!!

Now, I am certainly no carpenter. So why was I so excited that birds moved in? I spent time and money providing a little home for them, and I really really enjoyed seeing them have a safe place to hide from the weather and other larger birds.

It made me think that if I get excited for a bird to enjoy my creation, how much more does the Father delight to have his daughters enjoy His good gifts?

Take a look at Psalm 103. I bolded the verbs to emphasize all that the Father is doing.

Psalm 103:1-5 "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." (ESV)

Sweet friend, do you see?

Truth #2: The Lord sees you. He hears your cries. He delights in you (Zephaniah 3:17). He loves to give you good gifts like steadfast love and mercy, healing, forgiveness, and full satisfaction.

He is an infinite God that is beyond our understanding. He's also an intimate God that longs to lavish us in His love (1 John 3:1 NIV).

I hope that this week, you smile, lean back on your Father's chest, and enjoy His presence. Resting, knowing that your Abba Father has everything under control.

In His love and grace,

~ Stephanie
