These are a few of my favorite things...
Hi sweet friend!
I hope you don't mind that I borrowed a line from a childhood favorite, "The Sound of Music." My friend Erin and I used to pull my two couches opposite of one another in the living room, and sing and dance to "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." Because we loved this movie so much, we watched it over and over and over. So much fun!
Today, though, I hope you will indulge me because I want to share a few of my favorite things from Scripture. I would really like to hear from you about your favorite things from Scripture too!
My favorite verse from the Bible is John 21:25 "Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written." (ESV)
This verse excites me because I sit and think about how much more we will get to know Jesus' heart when we see Him face to face. We see some now, through the pages of Scripture and the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, but think about how much more there is to God. I don't know about you, but I am in awe when I think about sitting with Him for eternity, basking in His love, and praising Him forever!
My favorite passage is Ephesians 2:4-10 "But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—" (v 4-5, ESV).
Oh sweet friend, can you just grasp tightly to those beautiful two words..."But God..."? My life was one way, but now it's different because of that beautiful exchange, "But God..." I would love for you to share your testimony with me about how God has changed you, "because of the great love with which He loved us..."!
My favorite chapters are from Revelation chapters 4 and 5, where the recurring refrain praises the Holy Lamb of God, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” (ESV)
Can you hear it? The beautiful, loud, complex, choir singing the same song with one heart and one voice..."Worthy is the Lamb..."!!! When I sing in church, I often imagine myself in that throne room, joining that choir with the songs of worship and praise.
Lastly, my favorite book of the Bible is John. John, the beloved disciple, mentions the word "love" more than twice as many times as the other gospels. He also starts Jesus' story at the beginning, before creation. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (v.1)
I've read this book many times, but one afternoon I had some free time. I laid down on the floor in my bedroom and started in chapter one. Before I knew it, I was crying my way through the crucifixion and resurrection. What love He has for us! He pursued us even to death on a cross. But the best news is that Jesus is alive! I finished chapter 21 and sighed deeply, overjoyed at His redemption plan, and yearning for more intimacy with Him daily.
Now it's your turn. I would love for you to reply and share a few of your favorite things in the Bible. 🥰
I hope these verses, passages, chapters, and books seal in your heart the knowledge that you are loved and pursued by Jesus. Rest in Him this week!
Blessings,
~ Stephanie
